The complete ski trip packing list

If you’re dreaming of a perfect run down dry, white, soft powder, you’re not alone. Whether it’s a weekend escape to the slopes, or a week spent in Japan, skiing lets you embrace everything winter has to offer.

A snow holiday demands good preparation, so before you head off, make sure you research your individual destination and weather conditions, tick off your ski packing checklist, and brush up on how to stay safe.

Ski Necessities

Snow Insurance

Skiing, snowboarding and snow sports do come with additional risks and have a higher insurance premium. But while accidents are rare, collisions can happen – it’s essential to have access to unlimited medical coverage and evacuation from the snowfields.

Before you commit, read the fine print and make you’re covered for any winter activities you might participate in. If you’re not sure, contact the insurer directly to figure out the right cover for you or your family.

First-Aid Kit

For the more minor scrapes, bruises and sprains, bring a well-stocked first-aid kit including band-aids, bandages, antibacterial ointment, heat/cooling packs and an emergency blanket.

Technical Ski Gear

To protect yourself from the wind, rain and snow, you’ll need to invest in some technical cold-weather gear.

Besides the obvious benefits of staying warm and dry, you’ll be comfortable. And that makes for more time on the slopes, more fun, and an overall more enjoyable experience.

At a minimum, you’ll need a helmet, goggles, gloves, ski boots and an excellent layering system. If you’re just starting out, you can choose to rent your helmet, goggles, boots and ski gear on-mountain. This is a good way to test out whether skiing is for you without the upfront investment.

When choosing ski apparel, opt for high visibility. A bright, colourful outer layer will help other skiers avoid you and keep you visible in case of emergencies.
