Good new back pockets, but miss the side pocketsA new improvement over the first generation, though a little long for my liking. Would be nice to have the side pockets back, these are the perfect shorts for tramping, but hard to get at my phone when wearing a pack.

Perfect for the trails... & everything elseI have owned these shorts and their predecessor for nearly a year now, and have worn them almost every single day in that time- from trail running and hiking, to long haul flights, to laying on the couch: they have never done wrong.
Wearing them currently as I write this, I can assure you they're good for supermarket trips, plane trips, fridge trips. What I was most interested in however was their trail running uses, and I've been blown away by that.
The lining has prevented all chafing issues, even with river crossings and 5+ hour runs- they held me in great stead during the Kathmandu Coast to Coast. The belt is great for holding everything from phone and keys to gels and bars- there is a place for everything.
The only change I preferred in the older design was the shorter outer/longer inner, where the lining was visible. Having the liner tucked inside seems to, for want of a better way to put it, tickle my knees. Other than that minor preference, these are the perfect shorts for whatever adventure life chucks your way

I absolutely love themI brought these shorts for running in.
They are lightweight, have great pocket features and love the inner lining tights.

Great Warm weather Running shortBought a couple of weeks ago. After trying them on in store, I went down a size from normal to get extra grip through the waist and inner short. Has become my go to running short. Wearing commando due to the style of the inner short. Inner doesn't ride up due to the grippy elasticated bottom of the inner short leg. Breezy and breath well when running. Wore them in a downpour trail running, got completely soaked through; no chaffing.
The belt arrangement has lots of semi open pockets presumably for gels. I haven't used them yet. Don't know how good they'd be but they don't get in the way. Zipped pocket for car key: no issue. Multi-layered phone pocket on the back holds a phone well. With the drawstring, there isn't significant bounce or movement (iPhone x: normal size). Only issue with phone pocket is that the phone is one layer of fabric off your skin. My phone comes out wet on a hot day, but it's waterproof. This may be an issue if your phone isn't waterproof.
Overall great short. I'm likely to buy a second to rotate between washes.
