Hike Club Series

Kathmandu and We Are Explorers have teamed up to create 11 unique wilderness escapes across Australia and New Zealand.

The Hike Club series works with local experts in adventure photography, hiking, navigation and kayaking. These one to two days events are designed to introduce skills and experiences to those both new to the outdoor pursuits, as well as current adventurers.

The first five people to register for their chosen adventure will also receive a free pair of any Oboz shoes from the Kathmandu range (subject to availability). They can only be collected at your event, so make sure your dates are free!

Get the best of both worlds and explore the land and sea. This adventure will take you to the largest volcanoes in Auckland. You’ll kayak across the Waitemata harbour to Rangitoto Island.


About the trip:

Once at the Island, your group will trek to the summit for spectacular views of the Auckland region and end with a BBQ dinner at sunset.

The last leg of the journey will include the best part — kayaking back under the stars. Your trip will also include wildlife spotting!

For those on the North Island, get ready for a jam-packed weekend of Adventure Photography. If you’re looking to up your photography skills in one of the oldest national parks in New Zealand – book this trip!

 

About the trip:

This overnight trip will explore the world famous Tongariro National Park in the central North Island. The National Park has World Heritage status for its natural and cultural values and is world famous for hiking and photography.

You’ll be transported to photographic wonders such as emerald lakes, native bush and waterfalls. One of the highlights of this trip will no doubt be the Tongariro Alpine Crossing amongst the volcanos. You will also be staying overnight at Mangatepopo Hut, located in the National Park.

Your small group will be taught the basics of adventure and outdoor photography, from the award-winning photographer and influencer Rachel Stewart. Rachel is an expert in outdoor photography, specifically long exposures and mountains.

 

Event Details:

Date: 9th–10th March 2019.
Cost: $449 p/p.
Includes: Guided hike, national park fee, safety insurances, first aid, small group photography tuition, overnight accommodation on Saturday in huts with beds, running water, heating and camping stoves.

Note: If required, please book accomodation for the Friday night as we will be starting early Saturday (Alpine Chalets or camping grounds in Tongariro National Park). You should also have a basic understanding of how to use your cameras in manual mode and a reasonable level of fitness to walk for eight hours a day carrying camera gear.

About the trip:

This overnight camping trip will explore the famous Castle Hill Basin, which is a semi-alpine area nestled between two mountain ranges in Christchurch. Your small group will be taught the basics of adventure photography by young photographer and adventurer, Talman Madsen.

For the past two years, Talman has explored New Zealand from top to bottom, climbing mountains, sleeping under stars, hiking and dangling out of helicopters. He captured every moment, expressing his relationship with the moment and location through his photos, which he turned into a published book. He has had some pretty incredible career highlights so far, including winning New Zealand Geographic Young Photographer of the Year in 2016.

Date: 23rd–24th March 2019.
Cost: $399 p/p.

Includes:Guided hike for two days, safety insurance, first aid, small group photography tuition, tents, cooking, navigational and safety equipment will be provided.

Excludes: Food, transport, camera equipment.

Requirements: Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, but not required to have hiking experience. Participants should have basic understanding of how to use their cameras in manual mode.

 

Gear Recommendations:

To keep ticket cost to a minimum, we are asking participants to bring (or borrow) camping gear and food for themselves. We are also providing discount vouchers for participants if you need to purchase gear before the event. We highly advise investing in outdoor gear or borrowing from friends or family, but if you need help renting gear please let us know.
