Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the normal standard I buy most of my clothing from Kathmandu and this seemed a good replacement for an 4yo jacket that travelled many times around the world. It’s very light and reasonably warm, but on the 3rd day of wearing it I noticed it was shedding feathers often. Then on the 4th outing I brushed past a tree and it tore a decent hole in the jacket. The Kathmandu store told me places that could repair it, but I contacted Kathmandu to say I didn’t think the quality was great in general and they just said get it repaired. Given the price of the item I expected more and after the experience with customer service will not be so brand loyal in the future.

Is this jacket breathable and does it still provide warmth when wet? Ideally looking for a mid layer to compliment a merino base layer and Styper shell for Aussie sking conditions. Want a mid layer than can insulate but also regulate body temperature.

Asked by: Rob101
Hi thanks for your questions, the jacket is breathable however this is not measured and most of that comes from the space between each baffle of down, the down feathers will not insulate when wet so this will not provide warmth when wet.

Hi there, is this jacket ok so sub-zero weather? -5 to -10 degree Celsius. Thank you.

Asked by: tnpc
Yes this jacket would be a big help in -5 to -10 degrees, we often recommend for Alpine conditions to use a down as a mid layer, with base layers underneath and a waterproof/windproof layer on top.

Would this be suitable to wear as a mid-layer under a shell jacket (with high waterproof rating) for skiing in Japan / Canada?

Asked by: Andrew S
Yes, it would be suitable to keep you warm as a mid-layer, and as long as your waterproof shell is tight enough around the waist to be sure to not let any snow in then it should be fine. The main reason why I would suggest one of our Styper Snow Jackets is that they are designed for the snow and they have a snow skirt to keep the snow out.
