Mummy

Mummy bags, with their wider cut shoulders and narrow feet are the most efficient when it comes to weight and warmth. These bags conform more closely to your shape and only require minimal body heat to warm up. They encase you ‘like a mummy’ and may be restrictive and less roomy than other bags.

Semi-Rectangular

Semi-Rectangular bags with their tapered foot (more room than the Mummy) and contoured hood are a good compromise. These bags provide ample sleeping space at the torso for comfort.

Rectangular

Rectangular types offer more space and are cooler than others, letting you move easily within the bag. Because of the larger top opening, heat can escape more easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag for longterm use!! I bought this bag a year ago and slept in it almost every night in a hut or camping for 6 months while doing the South Island Te Araroa and an extended cycletour of NZ over summer and then a 2 month walk through Scotland in springtime. It has stood up well to heavy use; though I did use a silk liner to protect it. The zips still work well and nil feathers have leaked from stitching. I have washed it 3-4 times as per the instructions and it has puffed up well again. Was grateful for the water protection as this stopped it getting drenched from condensation in the tent some mornings. I was never cold - though was obviously tramping/camping at lower altitudes; not mountaineering in very cold temperatures. In warm temperatures was comfortable unzipped. It is not the smallest bag but does compress well - I bought a 2-6L waterproof compression sack and kept it in that while travelling. This sleeping bag has been a great investment - I'm always grateful to get into it at the end of a long day and know it will keep me warm and dry. Thanks Kathmandu for a great product!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Packed size is too big. It is too big when it's packed. If I could choose, I wouldn't buy it. I just bring my own down duvet when camping. It's same size and warmth. The first time I used it had pasted the 28 day return...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from seriously overpriced Even at 500 $ this product is still overpriced. The quality is average, he does the job but it's not durable. This sleeping bag has been done for casual users.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm! I bought this bag after a trip spent shivering in my previous down bag when hiking some mountains in winter... it's a bigger bag, about twice the size of my previous bag when stuffed and a bit more weight too, which made me think long and hard about getting it, but I'm glad I did as it's really warm! I happily slept through snow in a 3 season tent in this thing (but I really didn't want to get up the next day :p). It's too bulky and hot to be thought of as a bag for all seasons - you'd melt in the summer months in this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used this bag on one occasion now on a -1 night camping and was very warm. Much better than the older model (which I have also) with the fabric and zipper a big improvement and also larger dimensions Only concern is that is packs larger than I would like and expected it to pack smaller. Overall I think this bag is hard to beat for the price when on special.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Stuffed size too big This bag when stuffed takes up half of my 65l pack, and does not fit in the bottom sleeping bag compartment! Purchased online and unsighted as all the stores I tried did not have it in stock. Caveat emptor!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag This is the type of bag I dreamed of as a teenager in Scouting. It is really well made, very well designed, packs up unbelievably small, incredibly warm. I had a bad experience buying a bag like this on line and when it puffed up it looked like a lilo with a hole in it. This bag puffs up like the advertising image and is well plush. This bag is the rolls royce of bags. I usually end up using it open like a doona because it is incredibly warm.
