Mummy

Mummy bags, with their wider cut shoulders and narrow feet are the most efficient when it comes to weight and warmth. These bags conform more closely to your shape and only require minimal body heat to warm up. They encase you ‘like a mummy’ and may be restrictive and less roomy than other bags.

Semi-Rectangular

Semi-Rectangular bags with their tapered foot (more room than the Mummy) and contoured hood are a good compromise. These bags provide ample sleeping space at the torso for comfort.

Rectangular

Rectangular types offer more space and are cooler than others, letting you move easily within the bag. Because of the larger top opening, heat can escape more easily.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed with regular Pathfinder bag 2 x 13 degree nights spent in a new Pathfinder sleeping bag and I was cold all night both nights which was surprising not being a person who readily feels the cold. To Kathmandu's credit, the purchase price has been refunded. The temperature ratings for this bag, sadly, were in my opinion far too optimistic.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compact and light, but not as warm I liked the how small this sleeping bag packs down to! There's a small compartment inside that you can store some small items like face mask and ear plugs. There's lots of room to move around too and doesn't feel restricting. However, it says comfort is at 5 deg, im not so sure about this, I didn't find it particularly warm as I still had to wear thermals and socks at 8 deg. For the price, would only recommend if your looking to save space.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Incredibly warm (almost to a fault) It is astoundingly warm. I took it hiking in a Tasmanian winter and ended up sweating a river. I managed to cool down a bit by unzipping it and letting some air flow through, but it can't be laid flat like a blanket - the feet will always stay in the mummy configuration and I did find that a bit restrictive. Fully zipped into it, I found the fit to be quite perfect if you're after a figure-hugging bag. Personally, I found it a bit too much and so don't use this to completely cocoon myself. That said, if you like feeling super cosy, or if you run cold while you sleep, this is the bag for you - but if you're a hot-sleeper, or prone to some mild claustrophobia (or both!) I'd give it a miss.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for bikepacking I bought this bag to use on a bikepacking trip on the Nunda Biddi Trail in WA. the compact size was the selling point as I needed it to fit in the handlebar bag. Fits perfectly with inflatable mattress rolled around outside. warmth factor was good, but on cold nights I also slept in a lightweight down jacket. Hood function when flipped over enabled me to retain inflatable pillow in position.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from compact but warm compact and light, plus I have thanks to the instructions learnt that I should not keep it compacted all the time and I should not try to roll it but just punch it in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Sleeping Bag for all 4 Seasons I've brought this sleeping along many journeys, one time sleeping under a fly in Tongariro in -4. Had to double up with a puffa but awesome size to warmth factor. Great for the weight weary hiker. Would buy it again!

Hi, I am a 178 cm slender male - will a regular size Pathfinder fit me ok or do I need a large?

Asked by: Mike60
The lengths for this sleeping bag are as follows: Overall length - measured from toe seam to upper edge of hood - Large = 223 cm - Regular = 210 cm Upper length - measured from the toe seam to the hood opening - Large = 194 cm - Regular = 182 cm So looking at these measurements I would say you will be fine with a Regular size.

What's the best way to wash this sleeping bag?

Asked by: alexnaoum88
Handwashing your down sleeping bag- Before washing your sleeping bag, ensure all zippers and velcro tabs are secured. Fill your bath with 150mm of warm water and add a pure, mild soap, or detergent or Grangers down wash. Place your bag in the tub and gently massage the water into the bag by adding pressure from above with your open hands until the bag is saturated. When your bag is laden with water, do not attempt to lift it out because the heavy, wet down may tear the baffles. Leave to soak for 1-4 hours, depending on how dirty your bag is. Drain the water and then add fresh water, and massage the water into the bag again. Repeat this process until no suds are visible in the water. Press the water out of the bag and express as much water as possible. Fold the ends of the semi-dry bag in towards its centre and press firmly until all water is expelled. Once all the excess water has been released, the bundled sleeping bag can be put in a tumble dryer set on a low setting or air-dried. To air-dry the bag, lay out flat on towels over two portable clothes racks. Dry in a shaded area out of direct sunlight, as excessive exposure to UV will degrade the shell fabric. A hot dry windy day provides the perfect conditions for air drying your sleeping bag.
