Mummy

Mummy bags, with their wider cut shoulders and narrow feet are the most efficient when it comes to weight and warmth. These bags conform more closely to your shape and only require minimal body heat to warm up. They encase you ‘like a mummy’ and may be restrictive and less roomy than other bags.

Semi-Rectangular

Semi-Rectangular bags with their tapered foot (more room than the Mummy) and contoured hood are a good compromise. These bags provide ample sleeping space at the torso for comfort.

Rectangular

Rectangular types offer more space and are cooler than others, letting you move easily within the bag. Because of the larger top opening, heat can escape more easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this just under 2 weeks ago and I’m really happy with it. We slept in a DOC hut and I was actually too warm in it but that’s perfect as it will be great for camping which we are hoping to do with our daughter next year as she gets old enough. Love the hood and the two way zip as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid. You'll be surprised by this bag. Thin and light, my first use showed me how far technology has come. A comfortable night's sleep with a true shock at exiting the bag in the morning. I was shocked at how cold it was. I wanted to get back in my Odyssey-2 Sleeping bag.

What does the risk range mean?

Asked by: Matt 32
Temperature ratings are designed to give you an indication of a sleeping bag’s performance. Here’s how we, at Kathmandu, show the EN Standard temperature ratings on our sleeping bags. The thermal manikin test produces three relevant temperature ratings, which we display as: T Comfort – a standard woman can expect to sleep comfortably at this temperature. T Lower limit – a standard man can still get a comfortable night’s sleep at this temperature. T Extreme (risk) – a standard woman can still survive a night at this temperature, though there’s a risk of hypothermia. For more information on this please head to the Summit Journal in the link at the bottom of the page - Technology and materials - Understanding the EN Standard for sleeping bags

With Kathmandu, all products are covered by consumer guarantees. This covers any manufacturing faults of a product. We do not currently measure the carbon footprint of our products.

What does transition mean?

Asked by: Niko
The 'Transition range', or 'T Lower Limit', refers to the Degrees Celsius temperature, where a standard man can still get a comfortable night's sleep. All of this specific temperature rating testing is in accordance with EN13537. You can read more about this on our website under 'Understanding the EN Standard for sleeping bags'.
