In support of the Baptist World Aid Australia and TEAR Fund New Zealand call to action, as well endorsing the Global Call to Action from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), supported by the International Apparel Federation (IAF), Kathmandu is joining other leading brands from around the world in support of garment workers income, health and employment. This local and global action calls for brands to work on sustainable systems of social protection.
Kathmandu is joining with other companies from Australia, New Zealand and across the globe to participate in six key commitments. These commitments together communicate our alignment and our action in the face of the devastating impact of Covid-19 on the global garment industry, including those workers in our own supply chain.
We make these commitments because they represent and reflect our values as well as our desire to do what we can to support our manufacturers to survive the economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and to protect the wellbeing of workers.
We recognise more than ever that we cannot hope to adequately address the massive social and environmental challenges caused or intensified by the pandemic alone, and that collaboration with other businesses, community groups and Governments is a critical part of any meaningful and sustainable response.
We are acutely aware of the negative impact we have experienced within our own company, communities and countries. While our response will be imperfect, we nevertheless recognise that the immediate risk to those most vulnerable in our supply chains requires an urgent, agile and streamlined response.
In the coming months we will share more information about the actions we are taking. Baptist World Aid and TEAR Fund will both guide our response and externally validate our actions to ensure transparency and integrity. They will also share case studies and stories with the wider community in the hope that other brands will innovate accordingly and adopt promising best practices.
The 6 Covid-19 Ethical Fashion Commitments are:

- We commit to identify and support those workers at greatest risk
- We commit to listen to the voices and experience of workers
- We commit to ensuring workers’ rights and safety are respected
- We commit to collaborate with others to protect vulnerable workers
- We commit to build back better for workers and the world
